Complete Dentures For Total Replacement
When most or all of your teeth are missing or need to be replaced, you may need complete dentures.
Conventional dentures will be ready for placement in your mouth about 8 to 12 weeks after your teeth have been removed and your gum tissue has had a chance to heal.
In the meantime, Dr. Breckner can provide you with temporary, immediate dentures so you don’t go toothless. These temporary appliances may need occasional adjustments to fit properly as your gums shrink during the healing process.
Partial Dentures Help Prevent Tooth Shifting
When only a few teeth or missing or need to be replaced, you may be a candidate for a partial denture. As long as one or more teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw, a partial denture may be used.
Removable partial dentures feature replacement teeth embedded in a gum-colored plastic base, while fixed partials – which offer a more stable fit – are cemented in place.
In either instance, partial dentures help prevent your natural teeth from shifting as a result of the gap left by your missing teeth.
Implant Snap-On Dentures Stay in Place
As opposed to conventional dentures, which sit on the gum and can shift, a snap-on denture is attached to implants placed directly into your gums.
They are a practical and innovative solution when you’re missing teeth but still have enough bone material in the gums to support the implants. Dentures can be made secure with as few as two implants.
Owners of snap-on dentures like them for several reasons.
- They're very strong and stable because they're fixed in place
- Slippage and movement is eliminated
- Eating of difficult food is easier than with conventional dentures
Properly made, an implant snap-on denture is more like a bridge than dentures because it doesn't have a center palette. It is one of the most natural, comfortable solutions when you have missing teeth.
